Last week I had the opportunity to cover this first annual pet adoption day at the Capitol for the ASPCA. This fantastic event brought together rescue organizations, animals searching for their forever homes, and a brief address to the crowd from Assemblyman Roger Dickinson. Assemblyman Dickinson is the author of AB-2326, a bill that if successful will allow for pet adoption fees from qualified rescue organizations to be tax deductible. Assemblyman Dickinson was thanked personally by one of the four legged attendees.
Rescue organizations included the City of Sacramento's Front Street Shelter, Sacramento SPCA, Homeward Bound Golden Retriever Rescue, PAWED, Delta Humane Society, Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary, MickaCoo Pigeon & Dove Rescue, Contra Costa Humane Society, and Red Rover. Several furry friends and a few with feathers were there with them looking for homes.
Fox 40 News Reporter Alisa Becerra covered the event, and got up close and personal with some of the animals including a pigeon who jumped onto her shoulder as if on cue during his coverage!
Best ambassador of the day was "Buddy" from the Front Street Shelter. I think he should be renamed "Baby" as he was obviously happiest when lying in someone's arms!
My favorite pics of the day though, are adoption papers being signed for Rusty, and a pic with his new Mom. Congratulations Rusty!
